Interfaith Community Nursing
Extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ
The Interfaith Community Nursing Ministry of the Diocese of Jefferson City extends the healing ministry of Jesus Christ throughout several counties in the diocese with the expectation of extending into all 38 counties in the future.
Trained faith community nurses, with the support of their pastor, use a holistic approach for care by addressing the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of members within the congregation while respecting their individual faith beliefs and practices.
Faith community nurses appreciate that all persons are sacred and must be treated with compassion, respect, and dignity.
Primary roles of the faith community nurse include:
- Integrator of health and faith
- Health educator, counselor, and advocate
- Utilizing existing agencies with appropriate referrals
Catholic Charities provides a meeting space and support for the faith community nurses and other health ministry leaders, fostering enhanced collaboration with community organizations and local health providers.
